Illicit Enrichment Exceeding 12.7 Million Hryvnias
Ukraine’s Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) have concluded the pre-trial investigation into a sitting member of the Ukrainian Parliament’s 9th convocation. The lawmaker is suspected of illegally amassing assets worth more than 12.7 million hryvnias. According to investigators, the assets in question were acquired between 2020 and 2021, with their total value significantly surpassing the official income reported by the parliamentarian.
Key Assets Under Scrutiny
- An apartment in central Kyiv measuring 132.6 square meters, valued at 5.632 million hryvnias.
- Renovation and furnishing costs for this apartment, totaling 5.656 million hryvnias.
- A cottage and land plot in the resort settlement of Koblevo, with a combined value of 1.694 million hryvnias.
Notably, the property was ostensibly registered under the name of an acquaintance of the lawmaker, while the parliamentarian himself had been living in the Kyiv apartment since December 2021. Investigators allege that the lawmaker personally oversaw the renovations and paid for them in cash.
The case has been classified under Article 368-5 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code. NABU detectives have also shared the case materials with the defense team. The investigation drew on data from the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP). Under Article 62, Part 1 of Ukraine’s Constitution, any individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court verdict that has entered into force.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about corruption in Ukraine, particularly regarding the conduct of elected officials and the potential misuse of public resources.
