NATO Plans €70 Billion Military Aid Package for Ukraine

Суттєва фінансова підтримка для розвитку оборонних можливостей України від НАТО.

Preparations Underway for the NATO Summit in Ankara

NATO member states have drafted a set of decisions regarding continued military support for Ukraine, set to be discussed at the Alliance's upcoming summit in Ankara. The document outlines multi-billion-dollar defense contracts and new financial commitments to assist Kyiv. Specifically, the draft declaration includes a pledge by NATO countries to provide Ukraine with military aid totaling €70 billion. Funding for the following year is expected to remain at least at the same level.

Negotiations and Military Assistance

Diplomats are currently refining the text of the final declaration. According to one diplomat,

“the provisions on supporting Ukraine could become the most contentious part of the document.”
The exact value of future defense contracts has not yet been determined, but it is already clear that European NATO members plan to increase investments in long-range strike systems, air defense systems, and drones. As another senior Alliance official noted,
“overall, negotiations on the declaration text are proceeding without major complications.”

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin continues to insist on maximalist demands, which remains the primary obstacle to a peace agreement regarding the war in Ukraine. Large-scale defense contracts could benefit American industry, as NATO continues to strengthen its presence and security across the continent.

The preparations for the NATO summit in Ankara reflect the Alliance's ongoing efforts to bolster collective defense amid Russia's prolonged military aggression. The commitment to provide Ukraine with substantial military funding signals Western nations' readiness to support Kyiv in its fight for sovereignty and territorial integrity. The discussions surrounding the declaration highlight the importance of consensus among NATO members, as the issue of military aid to Ukraine has become central to the Alliance's strategic planning.

The ongoing discussions at the NATO summit in Ankara highlight the urgency of military support for Ukraine. In this context, Rutte's call for a mandatory GDP contribution from NATO allies underscores the collective commitment to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities against Russian aggression.
