Fresh Negotiations in Abu Dhabi Under the Shadow of Russian Strikes
A new round of U.S.-mediated talks on Ukraine commenced in Abu Dhabi on February 4. One Republican expert noted that since David Arakhamia joined the team, there has been a noticeable improvement in communication with Russian negotiators, who, in his view, have begun to respect the Ukrainian representatives as people willing to seek compromises.
Despite diplomatic efforts, some Ukrainian officials express doubts about Russia's intentions. Andriy Sybiha observed that expectations of diplomatic efforts did not deter Russia from terrorist attacks on civilians. Mykhailo Podolyak emphasized that the Russian 'ceasefire' appears more like a stockpiling of missiles for a future strike, indicating a lack of intent to stop the war or engage in genuine diplomacy.
