New Telecommunications Law: Minimum Internet Speed Will Increase to 100 Mbps

Зміна в законодавстві: Інтернет-з'єднання швидкістю не менше 100 Мбіт/с стане стандартом.

Changes in Legislation Regarding Mobile Communications

The President of Ukraine has signed Law No. 4670-IX, which changes the approach to providing mobile communication services, officially fixing the internet speed and introducing new obligations for operators. According to the new law, the minimum internet speed in Ukraine has been increased to 100 Mbps. Previously, this norm was only 2 Mbps, which severely limited users' possibilities.

New Obligations for Operators

One of the key requirements of the new law is the obligation for operators to provide autonomous network operation for no less than 100 hours during power outages. This innovation aims to enhance the reliability of communication in potential crisis situations.

Meanwhile, in large cities, the internet speed offered by operators currently varies:

  • The company 'Kyivstar' provides speeds of up to 42.23 Mbps;
  • Vodafone and lifecell offer values ranging from 22 to 31 Mbps.

Mobile communication users can expect changes in tariffs. Operators lifecell stated that they do not plan to raise prices in the near future. Instead, 'Kyivstar' plans to adjust some tariffs in 2025, increasing them by UAH 55, which is related to the overall market costs. Additionally, the state is lifting the moratorium on scheduled inspections of operators, which will allow for increased control over the quality of service provision.

The adoption of this law is an important step towards modernizing the telecommunications infrastructure in Ukraine.

Increasing the minimum internet speed to 100 Mbps meets modern requirements, considering the growing dependence of society on digital technologies. The new obligations for operators also aim to improve service quality in unstable conditions, which may positively impact users during emergencies.
