Tanker with Russian LNG arrived at the Chinese port of Beihai
The Arctic Mulan vessel delivered a cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Arctic LNG 2 plant, which is under sanctions, to the port in China. This was made possible through bypass routes that allowed gas and other goods to be delivered to China without adhering to sanctions restrictions.
The Arctic LNG 2 project, owned by Novatek PJSC, is significant for Russia's plans to expand LNG exports and seek new markets. Despite pressure from other countries on various issues, buyers of Russian LNG have not yet faced severe restrictions.
'The arrival of the tanker at the Chinese port may open new opportunities for the Russian energy sector, helping to avoid sanctions and establish new contacts for future deals,' noted an analyst.
The arrival of the Russian LNG tanker in the Chinese port indicates a search for new markets for Russian gas and may open opportunities for developing cooperation between Russia and China in the energy sector.
