First Phase of Ticket Sales for the 2028 Olympic Games
Organizers of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics have reported selling more than 4 million tickets during the initial sales phase, exceeding the 3.5 million tickets sold at the same stage for the Paris Games. Demand has come from 85 countries, with the most active international markets being the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and Mexico.
A notable trend is the faster sell-out of tickets for women's events compared to men's. The most popular women's sports were:
- volleyball
- artistic gymnastics
- soccer
Additionally, new sports such as flag football, lacrosse, softball, and squash saw complete sellouts. Exclusive pre-sale access was available for residents of Los Angeles and Oklahoma City.
Ticket Sales Details
According to reports, 95% of tickets priced under $100 were purchased by local fans, and roughly 500,000 tickets were sold for $28 each. However, some residents expressed dissatisfaction over high surcharges and the limited number of the cheapest options. Registration for the second sales phase is open until July 22, with sales beginning in August 2026. Each selected participant can buy up to 12 tickets for various Olympic events, with a limit of 4 tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies. An additional 12 tickets can be purchased for the soccer tournament.
“This is a historic situation,” commented Reynolds Hoover, one of the organizers.
This presents another opportunity to attend the premier global sporting event in the United States, drawing significant interest from sports fans worldwide.
The strong start to ticket sales for the Los Angeles Olympics highlights high enthusiasm from both local and international audiences. The growing interest in women's sports and new disciplines may reflect shifting perceptions of sports and increased female participation. As the Games take place in one of America's largest cities, they could mark a key milestone in sports development, including the promotion of emerging events to a broader audience.
The excitement surrounding the upcoming Olympics is also reflected in other major events, such as the 2027 European Games in Istanbul, which will serve as a vital qualifier for athletes aiming for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. As the global sports community gears up for these competitions, the implications for ticket sales and participation are significant, further emphasizing the growing interest in international sporting events.
