Uliana Matviienko: A New Chapter in Germany
Uliana Matviienko, the granddaughter of Ukraine's celebrated folk artist Nina Matviienko, has relocated to Germany and been granted refugee status. The ongoing war in Ukraine, now exceeding half a year, prompted this decision. At 27 years old, Uliana currently resides in Berlin and has started working in her new environment.
According to reports, Uliana left Ukraine six months ago. Her mother, singer Tonya Matviienko, confirmed that things are going well for her daughter.
“She is now living in Berlin, Germany. She is working. It’s been half a year since she left Ukraine. It’s a pity, but I try to meet with her as often as possible. She recently came to Lviv. So everything is fine! Yes, she is a refugee,”Tonya Matviienko stated.
Adjusting to a New Reality
Uliana occasionally visits Ukraine, but the war and relentless shelling forced her to change her place of residence. Tonya Matviienko also noted that at a certain point, Uliana simply said she could no longer stay in Ukraine because she was scared and anxious.
The granddaughter of Nina Matviienko continues to live and work outside her home country, striving to adapt to new life circumstances. She belongs to a family deeply rooted in Ukrainian culture, particularly through music, as her grandmother Nina Matviienko is a prominent figure in Ukrainian arts.
Uliana Matviienko's situation highlights the broader context of forced displacement among Ukrainians due to military conflict in the country. In recent years, many Ukrainian citizens have left their homes in search of safety and better living conditions, a direct consequence of the escalating war. It is important to note that many who have moved abroad strive to maintain their cultural ties and lead active lives in their new settings.
