Ukraine Under Fire: New Attacks and No Path to Peace

Dmitry Peskov, press secretary for Russia's president, says there are currently no preconditions for a negotiated end to the war, insisting that Moscow's "special military operation" will continue. His remarks came as Russian forces launched another wave of combined attacks on Kyiv overnight and into the morning, striking the capital in a massive assault.

The attack left 15 people dead and 34 wounded in Kyiv. Explosions, fires, and debris damage were reported in three districts of the city. The destruction includes roughly 20 residential buildings, a school, a kindergarten, and a children's hospital. More than 600 rescuers from the State Emergency Service and police were deployed to clear the wreckage, and authorities processed over 200 requests from residents whose property was destroyed or damaged.

Conflict Intensifies

President Volodymyr Zelensky also reported that Russia had struck a border checkpoint on the frontier with Moldova during the latest mass assault. The episode underscores how the conflict is escalating even as Russian officials speak of the need for a peaceful settlement.

"For now, given the position of the Kyiv regime, there are no preconditions for optimism about a peaceful resolution. The dynamics at the front are well known."

Ukraine remains on high alert as fighting shows no signs of easing. The latest events point to a prolonged conflict with no quick end in sight.

With Moscow's forces continuing to target civilian infrastructure, the human toll and physical destruction across Ukraine keep mounting. Peskov's comments and the renewed attacks suggest neither side is ready to compromise, leaving peace negotiations stalled and the situation increasingly grave.
