Meteorologist Natalia Didenko has provided an update on the weather conditions in Ukraine for February 19th, with a further outlook to February 23rd. While the precipitation-bearing cyclone is moving away from the country, frosty conditions and storm-force winds will remain in several regions. This persistent cold snap is part of a challenging winter period for the region.
On February 19th, the lowest temperatures, ranging from -9 to -12 degrees Celsius, are expected in the north, central areas, and the Odesa region. Across the rest of the country, temperatures will be between -4 and -9 degrees. In the southern regions and Zakarpattia, readings will hover around zero. During the day, average temperatures will fluctuate from -2 to -5 degrees, though in some northern locales, the mercury will drop to -7 degrees. In the south, southwest, and southeast, temperatures will range from -1 to +3 degrees, while in Crimea, they will be between +4 and +7 degrees.
Strong winds with storm-force gusts are forecast for the south, east, and in some central regions. Snow will linger on the Left Bank during the night of February 19th, with light precipitation expected in eastern and northeastern oblasts during the day. However, dry weather is anticipated to set in across all of Ukraine by the evening of the 19th. In Kyiv, snow will fall overnight, with nighttime lows of -10 degrees. The daytime high in the capital will be -5 degrees.
Natalia Didenko also noted that a noticeable warming trend is expected in Ukraine starting February 23rd.
The shifting weather conditions may impact various aspects of life in Ukraine, including transport infrastructure and agriculture. The anticipated warming from February 23rd could improve conditions for farmers but also brings risks associated with snowmelt and potential flooding. It remains crucial to monitor further forecasts to prepare for the changing weather patterns.
