Weather and Geomagnetic Forecast for Ukraine, April 21-22
A windy and cool period with rain in several regions is forecast for Ukraine on April 21-22. According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, precipitation on the night of the 21st will be confined to the north of the country. During the day, rain will move across the Carpathian region, Transcarpathia, and the south and southeast, where it may be moderate to heavy in places. A northerly wind will prevail at speeds of 7-12 m/s (16-27 mph), with gusts potentially reaching 15-20 m/s (34-45 mph) in southern oblasts.
Nighttime air temperatures will range from 1 to 6°C (34-43°F). However, frosts between 0 and -3°C (32-27°F) are expected in northern oblasts, including Volyn, Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, and Poltava. Daytime highs will reach 7-12°C (45-54°F). In the Carpathians, wet snow is expected, with mountain temperatures fluctuating between -3°C and 2°C (27-36°F) throughout the day.
Kyiv and the surrounding oblast are forecast to have cloudy spells with no precipitation and a northerly wind of 7-12 m/s. Temperatures in Kyiv Oblast will drop to 0 to -3°C (32-27°F) at night and rise to 7-12°C (45-54°F) during the day, with ground frosts of 0 to -3°C possible.
Geomagnetic Storm Forecast
Regarding space weather, a moderate geomagnetic storm with a K-index of 4 (yellow level) is anticipated for April 21. This is followed by a forecast for a weak storm with a K-index of 2.7 (green level) on April 22. This geomagnetic data is provided by the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC). While these storms are not extreme, they can affect satellite operations and power grids, and some individuals report sensitivity to such fluctuations.
The overall forecast indicates a significant temperature drop across Ukraine, which could impact agriculture, particularly in northern regions facing frost. The combined information on wind gusts, potential precipitation, and geomagnetic activity is useful for outdoor planning and for those who are sensitive to changes in the Earth's magnetic field.
As we brace for the chilly conditions and geomagnetic activity on April 21, it's essential to consider how similar weather phenomena have unfolded in recent weeks. For instance, the forecast from late March highlighted warmer temperatures and solar storms, showcasing the unpredictable nature of spring weather. Understanding these patterns can help residents prepare for the challenges ahead.
