The grandmother who bravely escaped from the occupied territory has died

Grandmother Lydia Stepanovna, who last year in April at the age of 98 walked over ten kilometers from the occupied Ocheretin in Donetsk region, has died. This was reported by Igor Zinkevich, a deputy of the Lviv City Council, as reported by 'Glavkom'.

“The grandmother who walked out of Ocheretin has died. She was 98. In 2024, Lydia Stepanovna crossed about 10 kilometers of the front just to be in the territory controlled by Ukraine,” wrote Zinkevich.

In April 2024, Lydia Stepanovna, along with her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter, decided to escape to the territory controlled by Ukraine on their own. However, for unclear reasons, the relatives became separated. The grandmother walked all day without food and water, fell several times in weakness, and as she said, “fell asleep.” The woman was supported by two sticks.

Later, Lydia Stepanovna was issued a new passport – the old documents were destroyed by the occupiers. The woman also moved from the shelter for evacuees to a new home – her own house was purchased by Monobank together with partners.

Grandmother Lydia Stepanovna, who courageously escaped from the occupied territory, has left this world. At 98, she walked over ten kilometers to reach the territory controlled by Ukraine. Her bravery and love for freedom will remain in the memory of many.
