Preparations Begin for 2026 Digital Residency Allocation
In 2026, more than 3,000 graduates from medical universities will take their first step into the profession through a system designed to ensure transparent and fair placement of young specialists. The allocation will be conducted via the Electronic Rating Distribution System for internships, now in its second year of operation.
Electronic Rating Distribution System
Developed by Ukraine's Ministry of Health in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Transformation, this system is integrated with the Ministry of Health's Unified Job Portal. It allows students on contract-based study programs to compete for state-funded residency positions, alongside over 2,900 state-funded students.
With the new system, the competitive score is calculated to an accuracy of 0.00001, enhancing fairness in the selection process.
The platform powering this electronic system, Diia.Engine, has received support from the Swiss-Ukrainian EGAP program, implemented by the Eastern Europe Foundation. Thanks to this initiative, the start of the professional journey for young medical professionals will become more transparent and equitable.
The system will establish clear criteria for evaluating candidates' performance, contributing to improved quality of medical personnel in Ukraine.
The introduction of the electronic rating distribution system for internships marks a significant step in reforming medical education in Ukraine. This innovation aims not only to improve conditions for graduates but also to elevate the overall standard of healthcare by supplying medical institutions with qualified specialists.
Joint efforts by state agencies and international partners are fostering greater transparency and fairness in the allocation of medical personnel.
As the medical residency allocation process evolves, it's crucial to recognize the broader context of healthcare improvements in Ukraine. Recent government initiatives, such as increased funding for hospitals and enhanced salaries for doctors, are paving the way for a more robust healthcare system.
