The USA and Russia discussed energy agreements aimed at achieving peace in Ukraine
Representatives from the USA and Russia held negotiations on several energy agreements aimed at strengthening peace in Ukraine. According to information from Reuters, these agreements would serve as an incentive for the Kremlin to end the conflict in Ukraine and ease sanctions against Russia.
"These agreements were proposed as an incentive to encourage the Kremlin towards peace in Ukraine and to ease sanctions from Washington against Russia"
Among the issues discussed was the potential return of Exxon Mobil to the Russian project "Sakhalin-1," which left the market in 2022 due to losses. The parties also agreed on the purchase of American equipment for Russian liquefied natural gas production projects, as well as the procurement of atomic cryogels from Russia.
Agreements and Negotiations
The negotiations took place during the visit of US special envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow and were also discussed at the White House with President Donald Trump. Initiatives were also discussed at the summit in Alaska.
"The White House really wanted to generate headlines after the summit in Alaska by announcing a major investment deal. This is how Trump believes he achieved a result"
Despite this, Trump threatened possible sanctions against Russia if the negotiations did not yield tangible results, as well as harsh tariffs against India, which is one of the main buyers of Russian oil. Earlier, President Putin also expressed views on negotiations with President Zelensky.
As a result of the negotiations between the USA and Russia, energy agreements aimed at peace in Ukraine were discussed. In particular, the possibility of Exxon Mobil returning to the Russian project, the procurement of American equipment for Russian projects, and other issues were considered.
