The demands of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin regarding the end of the war in Ukraine have been published. According to Reuters, Putin demands that Ukraine transfers all of Donbas to Russia, abandon its ambitions to join NATO, and ensure the neutrality of its country.
Almost the entire three-month closed dialogue between Putin and US President Trump in Alaska was devoted to discussing a possible compromise regarding Ukraine. Putin is willing to concede territorial demands, offering Ukraine a complete withdrawal from the Donbas controlled by its forces in exchange for a ceasefire in the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions.
Putin is also insisting on Ukraine abandoning its plans to join NATO, providing legal guarantees regarding the non-expansion of the alliance to the east, and limiting Western troops in Ukraine.
Paths to peace through compromise
Three sources close to the Kremlin state that the summit in Anchorage opened the best chances for peace in Ukraine since the beginning of the war. Putin has shown a willingness to compromise, but Ukraine opposes withdrawing its troops from Donbas under such conditions.
Ukraine's position is unacceptable for Kyiv both politically and strategically, believes political scientist Samuel Charap. There are discussions about possible agreement options between Russia, Ukraine, and the USA to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
Putin has outlined his demands for ending the war in Ukraine, laying the groundwork for a compromise that would satisfy all parties. However, the views of the parties on the conditions for a ceasefire still differ, and the conflict resolution process continues.
