In Germany, the United Kingdom, and France, there are over 1 million job openings. However, according to Eurostat, at the end of May this year, there were about 13.1 million people unemployed in EU countries.
Germany has the largest number of vacancies - 1.05 million. The country has become popular for migration: only in 2023, 1.27 million immigrants moved. In the second quarter of 2025, the United Kingdom had 781 thousand vacancies, while France had 504 thousand. The Netherlands ranks fourth in terms of the number of free positions with 400 thousand.
Research has shown that the highest demand for workers is observed in Northwestern Europe, where the vacancy rate exceeds 3%. At the same time, Eastern and Southern European countries have a lower demand for labor. The least number of job openings in the EU is in Iceland, Luxembourg, Malta, and North Macedonia.
Considering Eurostat’s research, it can be concluded that the labor market in the European Union reflects a complex situation, where there is a certain shortage of jobs in some countries, but at the same time, a large number of unemployed people overall in the EU.
