Zelenskyy Holds Emergency Meeting Following Russian Strikes on Odesa and Energy Grid

Зеленський скликає термінову нараду після обстрілів Одеси та енергетичної інфраструктури.

Ukraine Targeted by Russian Military Strikes

Russian forces have carried out a series of attacks across Ukraine, targeting the administrative center of the Novhorod-Siverskyi community in Chernihiv region, the city of Odesa, and the energy infrastructure of Odesa region. In response to the strikes, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy convened an expanded emergency meeting to address the consequences for the nation's power grid. These attacks are part of a sustained Russian campaign against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, now in its third year.

Preliminary reports indicate the strike on the Novhorod-Siverskyi community was carried out using a Geran-type attack drone. The assault caused significant damage, nearly destroying the building of the district state administration. Emergency services are currently working to determine if there are any casualties.

Impact and Damage from the Attacks

In the early hours of February 12, Russian troops attacked Odesa, damaging an infrastructure facility and a business center building. Furthermore, a strike on February 10 targeted the energy infrastructure of Odesa region, resulting in partial power outages for settlements across three communities in the oblast. To maintain stability, critical infrastructure objects have been switched to backup power supplies.

This follows massive strikes on the energy system on February 7, which left the most critical situations in Kyiv and six settlements of the Kherson region. Persistent drone attacks are hampering rapid repairs to the electrical grids, further exacerbating the situation in these regions.

These assaults underscore the continuation of hostilities in Ukraine and their severe impact on civilian infrastructure. The destruction of administrative buildings and energy facilities not only threatens the daily lives of local communities but also complicates the country's economic recovery. Amidst ongoing instability and constant threats, the government continues to work on ensuring stable energy supply and protecting critical infrastructure.
