Ukrainian Security Service Exposes Police Cover-Up of Illegal Porn Studios

Служба безпеки України викрила замовні дії правоохоронців, пов'язані з нелегальними порнографічними студіями.

Corruption Scheme Uncovered in National Police

A joint operation by the Office of the Prosecutor General and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has exposed a corruption scheme within the National Police, where unit leaders in three regions were shielding underground porn studios from law enforcement. These studios were illegally producing, creating, and distributing erotic and pornographic content online. The investigation is currently focused on the main police departments in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, and Zhytomyr regions.

Details of the Corruption Scheme

The scheme's intermediary was a driver for one of the deputy ministers of internal affairs. Regional police leadership received a monthly bribe of $20,000, while the intermediary pocketed an additional $5,000 each month. In February 2026, a $45,000 payment was documented, followed by a $25,000 transfer in April of the same year. Authorities also recorded a $20,000 payment to a regional police official through a close associate, after which the same official received another $20,000.

  • The intermediary was arrested after receiving a subsequent $25,000 installment.
  • One law enforcement officer has already been notified of suspicion under Article 368, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The operation is being conducted with the support of the Minister of Internal Affairs and the National Police's Internal Security Department, underscoring the seriousness of efforts to combat corruption within the system. This case highlights ongoing anti-corruption reforms in Ukraine, aimed at increasing transparency and public trust in law enforcement.

This situation underscores the critical need to root out corruption in Ukraine's law enforcement agencies, especially given recent reforms designed to enhance police accountability and integrity.

The exposure of such schemes demonstrates law enforcement's active role in investigating corruption crimes and the necessity for continued oversight of officials at all levels. The involvement of top Ministry of Internal Affairs leadership further signals the gravity of the situation and a commitment to restoring public confidence in the police force.

The recent uncovering of a corruption scheme within the National Police parallels ongoing efforts to address misconduct in various government sectors. For instance, a comprehensive audit of military recruitment offices revealed significant illegal gains by officials, further highlighting the urgent need for reforms to ensure accountability across all branches of public service.
