A Call for International Vigilance
Andrii Sybiha, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has urged the global community to stay alert in response to military exercises taking place in Belarus’s Grodno region. Between June 20 and July 2, the Oshmyany district military commissariat reportedly issued call-ups for roughly 2,000 reservists and established preliminary assembly points. While Belarus officially describes these actions as a routine data check, Sybiha argues they serve as a tactic to intimidate neighboring nations.
Sybiha noted that Minsk is ramping up its military presence near the borders of Ukraine and NATO countries, aligning with Kremlin interests.
“Belarus’s leadership shows no signs of pursuing de-escalation,”the minister emphasized. Ukraine continues to closely monitor Belarusian activities and is calling on the international community to increase pressure on the Lukashenko regime.
Ukrainian President Issues an Ultimatum
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered an ultimatum to Lukashenko regarding military equipment stationed along the border with Ukraine. He pointed out that Belarus has repeatedly received signals from Ukraine to stop aiding Russia, particularly concerning the use of signal relays that help coordinate strikes by Russian and Iranian drones on Ukrainian territory. Belarusian authorities were made aware of this issue through intelligence and security channels.
Regarding the threat from the Belarusian direction, Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) assessed it as potential but limited in scope.
“The head of state added that Russia will continue pushing Lukashenko into war, and he understands Ukraine will respond,”Zelenskyy stated. This information was reported by Glavkom, which also published data on the size of Lukashenko’s army.
These developments highlight escalating tensions along Ukraine’s border and the potential risks tied to intensified military exercises in Belarus. Given the close collaboration between Minsk and Moscow, Ukrainian authorities are calling for decisive international action to deter aggression. Amid rising tensions, it is crucial for neighboring countries to recognize the real threats and prepare for possible conflict scenarios that could impact regional security.
In light of these escalating tensions, President Zelenskyy has also addressed the critical issue of communication systems in border areas, emphasizing the need for Belarus to cease its support for Russian military operations.
