Extraordinary Congress of the 'Servant of the People' Party

An extraordinary congress of Ukraine's ruling political party, 'Servant of the People,' was held on March 27, resulting in several key personnel and organizational decisions. These included a revised party charter that establishes a new Presidium as its operational management body. The Presidium's membership includes party chairman Oleksandr Kornienko, chairman of the Political Council David Arakhamia, chairman of the National Council of Communities Oleksandr Zavitnevych, and newly elected deputy chairmen of the party.

David Arakhamia was re-elected as chairman of the Political Council, while Oleksandr Zavitnevych was reconfirmed as head of the National Council of Communities. To improve the party's management structure, the position of deputy chairman was also created, with the following appointments:

  • Vitaliy Bezgin, responsible for work related to temporarily occupied territories, internally displaced persons, and the party's parliamentary faction network;
  • Arseniy Pushkarenko, who will oversee party building and organizational development;
  • Vadym Halaychuk, who will be in charge of international activities and serve as the party's international secretary.

Party Renewal and Internal Tensions

A further step in the party's renewal was the appointment of Yevheniia Kravchuk as a special representative for cooperation with the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) and the Renew Europe group. As the party's press service noted,

"the important personnel and management decisions are aimed at strengthening key priorities dictated by the challenges of the present."

During the congress, statements were also made by MP Olha Vasylevska-Smahliuk, who reported a leak of information from the faction's internal chat. She pointed to the existence of a group within the parliamentary faction that, in her words, sabotages voting and acts against President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. These issues may become the subject of further internal party discussions, as resolving them is crucial for the unity and effectiveness of 'Servant of the People.' The party holds a parliamentary majority, making its internal cohesion vital for governance.

The adopted decisions indicate the party's intent to adapt its structure to contemporary challenges, particularly by strengthening management functions and ensuring greater operational efficiency. The appointment of new deputy chairmen and a representative for international partners underscores the importance of foreign policy and interaction with international organizations. However, the internal conflicts raised at the congress could threaten the party's stability and its standing in parliament, requiring continued attention and efforts to resolve questions of internal unity.

The recent changes in the leadership structure of the 'Servant of the People' party come amid growing calls for reform within its faction. As highlighted by MP Vasilevska-Smahliuk, the demand for leadership alterations has intensified, reflecting the internal tensions that the party is currently facing. This context adds further significance to the recent congress decisions aimed at revitalizing the party's approach to governance and engagement with its members.
