Outdoor Burning Ignites Major Blaze, Destroying Building and Half a Hectare of Land

Вогненна стихія завдала серйозної шкоди, знищивши будівлю та значну ділянку землі.

Fire Breaks Out in Obykhovychi Village

A fire in Obykhovychi village, part of the Ivankiv community, was sparked by a resident burning dry brush on a private plot. The flames spread rapidly, igniting dry grass and then engulfing an outbuilding. The incident resulted in the destruction of one structure and the burning of 0.5 hectares of dry vegetation. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) received the alert, dispatching rescuers from the 41st State Fire and Rescue Unit in Ivankiv settlement. The individual responsible has been held administratively liable under Article 77-1 of Ukraine's Code of Administrative Offenses. Fines for burning dry vegetation range from 3,060 to 6,120 hryvnias for private citizens and from 15,300 to 21,420 hryvnias for officials.

Emergency Services Urge Safety Compliance

Rescue workers are urging the public to follow fire safety rules, as such incidents can lead to significant losses. As the rescuers noted:

“The fire scorched 0.5 hectares of dry vegetation and destroyed an outbuilding. Thankfully, no one was injured.”

This case is not isolated. A similar fire previously occurred in Babyntsi village, Bucha district, destroying three residential houses along with outbuildings. Extinguishing the blaze in Babyntsi required four hours and four teams of rescuers. Additionally, on March 6th, a garage fire on Taras Bulba-Borovets Street in Kyiv was likely caused by ignited grass matting. These events underscore the critical importance of adhering to safety protocols during outdoor work, especially during dry periods.

Given the increasing number of fires linked to burning dry vegetation, it is vital to emphasize the need for strict fire safety compliance to prevent similar incidents in the future. Relevant authorities continue to stress citizen responsibility for actions that can threaten environmental safety and human lives.

The recent incident in Obykhovychi village highlights the urgent need for fire safety awareness, especially considering the alarming statistics from the heating season, where fires have claimed 848 lives in Ukraine.
