The U.S. State Department has greenlit a deal to sell Hawk air defense system components to Ukraine, valued at over $108 million. What the Deal Includes
According to official details, the approved package consists of:
- erector launcher and mast trailers;
- spare components;
- consumables;
- ancillary accessories;
- repair services and software support.
The total estimated cost of the package stands at $108.1 million. The MIM-23 Hawk is a U.S.-made medium-range surface-to-air missile system that first entered service with the American military in 1959. Ukraine initially received Hawk systems in late 2022, with Spain providing the first batch. The system is capable of engaging targets at distances of up to 40 km.
Colorado-based Sierra Nevada Corporation, headquartered in Englewood, has been named the primary contractor for this project. The State Department emphasized that the proposed sale aligns with U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by enhancing the security of a partner nation that serves as a force for political and economic stability in Europe. Officials also noted that the transaction will improve Ukraine's ability to counter both current and future threats, while maintaining that it will not alter the fundamental military balance in the region.
