The United States' exit from international structures
The United States has announced its exit from 66 international structures, driven by the necessity to protect national interests and reduce costs associated with ineffective bureaucracy. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that many institutions have duplicative functions and demonstrate zero results. President Donald Trump signed a memorandum to terminate membership and funding in international organizations.
Structures from which the USA is ceasing participation
Among the structures from which the USA is ceasing participation are 31 UN organizations, including:
- Department of Economic and Social Affairs
- Peacekeeping Fund
- UNESCO
Furthermore, the United States is leaving 35 organizations outside the UN, including:
- Venice Commission
- European Centre for Countering Hybrid Threats
- International Renewable Energy Agency
At the same time, in Iran, the regular army is ready to join in suppressing anti-government protests, blaming Israel and foreign terrorist groups for organizing the unrest. President Trump expressed readiness to support the Iranian people, stating that
“the Iranian people are closer to freedom than ever”- Donald Trump. Marco Rubio also emphasized that the United States supports the brave people of Iran.
The United States' exit from international structures may significantly impact the global political architecture, as the USA is one of the key players in international relations. Reducing participation in such organizations may lead to weakened international cooperation in various areas, from security to development. In the context of Iran, the statements by American leaders in support of the protesters reflect the strategic interest of the USA in strengthening democracy in the region, which may lead to further tensions in relations between Washington and Tehran.
