Current situation in Odesa
The number of deaths in Odesa due to the natural disaster has increased. 10 people have died, including a child. This was reported by the Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine Oleksii Kuleba, according to "Hlavkom".
Today, October 2, a day of mourning has been declared in the city. The city authorities have already begun measures to support the victims and compensations for the families of the deceased.
«We need to find out why the warning system in the city did not work properly. People did not receive clear information about the risks, schools did not switch to remote mode, and there were no sufficient restrictions on movement in the city. All of this is a matter of safety and people's lives,» he wrote.
Special attention is given to flooded shelters, which are critically important in wartime conditions. Kuleba noted that the issue will be resolved as soon as possible.
As a reminder, on September 30, Odesa was hit by record rains caused by a slow local cyclone over the Black Sea. In one day, the city received 94 mm of precipitation, which is 224% of the monthly norm. Meteorologists explain that an anticyclone blocked the cyclone's movement, exacerbating atmospheric fronts and causing local downpours, and due to the risk of flooding, the alert level was raised to red.
President Volodymyr Zelensky instructed Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba to conduct a thorough check of the situation in Odesa and clarify all facts that preceded the tragedy and may have caused such significant consequences. Zelensky expects a detailed report by this Friday and expressed condolences to the deceased's relatives and friends.
After record rains in Odesa, 10 people have died, including a child. The city authorities began actions to provide support to the victims and compensations for the families of the deceased. The President of Ukraine instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to address the issues and establish the causes of the tragedy.
