Clash in Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada
A physical altercation broke out in Ukraine’s parliament during a speech by lawmaker Oleksandr Fediienko on a proposed cyber forces law. Deputy Mariana Bezuhla rushed to the rostrum and interrupted his address. Parliamentary Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk ordered her to return to her seat. Bezuhla later stated that she had apologized for violating parliamentary procedure.
In response, Fediienko remarked that
“the only person blocking the adoption of the cyber forces law couldn’t control her emotions.”He stressed the bill’s significance for troops operating in cyberspace.
“We have no right to turn parliament into a tool of blackmail when national defense is at stake. Every day of delay is not just a procedural issue—it limits the capabilities of those already fighting for Ukraine in cyberspace,”Fediienko said.
Lawmaker’s History of Confrontations
This is not Bezuhla’s first controversial incident. She previously engaged in a physical fight with fellow MP Serhiy Taruta, and on April 30, 2026, she blocked the parliamentary podium demanding the dismissal of Oleksandr Syrskyi. As a result, the Committee on Rules of Procedure recommended barring her from the next session.
The clash highlights growing tensions within the Verkhovna Rada and underscores the urgency of legislative debates tied to national security, especially in cyber defense. Such disruptions risk stalling critical decisions and undermining public confidence in the lawmaking process. For context, Ukraine has been working to strengthen its cyber capabilities amid ongoing Russian aggression, making timely passage of this bill a strategic priority.
