In July, the number of casualties among the civilian population of Ukraine reached a new three-month high in the last three years of the war. This was reported by the UN Monitoring Mission on Human Rights in Ukraine (MMAPU). According to the report, last month, 286 civilians were killed due to military crimes by the Russian Federation in 18 out of 24 regions of the country. Another 1,388 were injured.

Head of MMAPU Daniel Bell noted that this is the second consecutive month in which the number of casualties among civilians has reached a three-month high. He emphasized that only in the first three months after the onset of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation were there more deaths and injuries than in the last month.

“For the second consecutive month, the number of casualties among civilians in Ukraine sets a three-month high. Only in the first three months after the onset of the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation were there more deaths and injuries than in the last month”

The report also indicates that nearly 40% of the casualties are due to the enemy's use of long-range weapons. The second most impactful cause of civilian deaths was attributed to drones. It is noted that losses due to drone strikes have significantly increased compared to July 2024. In total, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, at least 13,883 civilians have been killed, including 726 children.

The number of civilian casualties in the war in Ukraine continues to rise, indicating an escalation of the conflict and the prolonged suffering of the civilian population. The most affected are the residents of regions where active hostilities are ongoing and modern weapons are being used, which poses a serious challenge for the international community in ensuring peace and security in eastern Ukraine.
