Three-Way Consultations Scheduled for Abu Dhabi
A new round of three-way consultations involving representatives from Ukraine, Russia, and the United States is set to take place in Abu Dhabi on February 4-5. This marks the second meeting in this format and is considered crucial for exploring potential pathways to peace. The U.S. delegation will be represented by President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner.
These talks follow a previous round of three-way negotiations held in the United Arab Emirates on January 23-24. The Russian delegation arrived in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, while the Ukrainian delegation departed for the UAE capital on February 2. The meeting is scheduled for February 4-5, an event of significant importance in the current international diplomatic landscape.
Delegation Composition and Meeting Objectives
U.S. representative Caroline Levitt noted that these negotiations are
"historic in nature", representing the first instance where representatives from all three sides have sat down for direct talks aimed at discussing peace. The composition of the Russian delegation in the previous talks included:
- Chief of the GRU Igor Kostyukov (head)
- Head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev
- First Deputy Head of the GRU Information Department Alexander Zorin
- Interpreter Ilya Kurepov
The primary aim of this meeting is to continue the dialogue between the parties and seek compromise solutions that could contribute to stabilizing the regional situation. These consultations occur against a backdrop of heightened international tensions and a pressing need for peaceful resolutions to ongoing conflicts. The participation of U.S., Ukrainian, and Russian representatives in a single negotiation process underscores the critical role of international cooperation in achieving stability. The outcomes of these meetings could significantly influence the future development of the regional situation and the relationships between these states.
