After the overnight Russian attack, Kyiv faced not only infrastructure damage but also significant losses in public transport. Dozens of modern PESA trams were damaged in one of the tram depots, forcing the city to change the operation of several routes. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.
Shelling of Kyiv Damaged 42 PESA Trams
The KSCA informed that as a result of the Russian shelling, 42 PESA trams were damaged in one of the capital's depots. To restore the rolling stock as quickly as possible, a special repair group was formed, consisting of employees from all tram depots in Kyiv.
According to preliminary estimates, it will take about a week to restore the damaged trams. After the repair works are completed, they are planned to be returned to their usual routes.
While the repairs are ongoing, the operation of some tram lines has been completely replaced by buses:
-
route №1Т;
-
route №3Т.
In addition, some trams were transferred from other routes to ensure passenger transportation.
PESA Trams in Kyiv: How Transport Movement Changed
The redistribution of the rolling stock has already affected the operation of other routes. In particular, in the capital, the intervals of trams №14 and №15 have increased, as some trams have been temporarily allocated to compensate for the losses.
PESA trams are among the most modern in the capital's fleet. The first Polish tram from this manufacturer was put into operation in Kyiv in August 2016. They are equipped with low floors, air conditioning systems, USB ports for charging mobile devices, and have low noise levels during operation.
At the time of purchase, the cost of one such tram exceeded one million euros, so the damage to 42 trams became one of the largest blows to the modern rolling stock of the capital in recent years.
It should be noted that emergency and rescue operations have been completed at the site of a missile strike on a 16-story residential building in the Darnytsia district of Kyiv. As a result of the Russian attack on July 2, 31 people died, and 102 were injured.
