Body of 23-Year-Old Recovered from Kyiv’s Lake Redkyne After Five-Day Search

Тіло молодого чоловіка знайдено у міському озері після тривалих пошуків.

Tragedy Strikes at Lake Redkyne

A tragic incident has unfolded in Kyiv, where the body of a 23-year-old man was recovered from Lake Redkyne (also known as Ministerka) in the Obolon district. Divers located the victim on June 24, concluding a five-day search effort. The drowning occurred on the evening of June 20, with emergency services receiving a distress call at 7:51 PM.

Rescue operations launched immediately, and by June 20, divers had already scoured the first 100 square meters of the water area. However, the lake’s natural conditions hindered progress: the bottom was heavily silted, and underwater visibility was virtually zero. After a request from the victim’s family, divers from the underwater and humanitarian demining unit of the ARZ SP continued the search. Eventually, at 2:53 PM on June 24, the body was found at a depth of 10 meters, roughly 70 meters from the shore.

Community Response

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS) in Kyiv confirmed the search had ended and the body had been found. This tragedy has deeply shaken local residents and the victim’s family, sparking widespread grief and concern.

The loss of the young man has been a shocking event for the community, which actively supported the search efforts. This incident underscores the critical need to follow water safety guidelines during recreation, especially when environmental factors can complicate rescue operations. Authorities are urging citizens to remain cautious and vigilant near bodies of water to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
