50 shelters are being built at ports: how to ensure the safety of workers

Нові укриття на морських терміналах: створення безпечних умов для працівників
Ukrainian seaports are actively expanding their network of shelters to protect workers in case of emergencies. This was announced by the Deputy Minister for Community Development and Territories of Ukraine, Andriy Kashuba. According to him, there are already 30 permanent shelters and 21 mobile protective structures operating in the ports, with plans to open another 28 new shelters by the end of the year. During the inspection of the ports, attention was also drawn to the safety of cargo handling, especially hazardous materials.

'We have analyzed the ports' readiness for such operations. Our position is to localize the handling of cargo at a safe distance from populated areas. It is important that the handling is done in compliance with all safety requirements, without accumulating cargo in the ports, and preferably at night,' emphasized Kashuba.

Let us remind you that last year the handling, storage, and transportation of explosive materials were prohibited in the ports. The Ministry is actively working on balanced solutions that take into account the needs of safety, farmers, and the stable operation of ports. The agency already has proposals and initiatives on this issue.
