Ukraine has lost 35% of electricity: consequences for the economy and population

В Україні спостерігається суттєве зниження електропостачання, що впливає на добробут громадян і стабільність економіки.
According to the infographic study 'Energy Transition', prepared by the visual communications agency Top Lead in collaboration with Forbes Ukraine BrandVoise, Ukraine has experienced losses in electricity production. In particular, total electricity production decreased from 156.6 billion kWh in 2021 to approximately 101.1 billion kWh in 2024, representing a decrease of 35%.

The main reasons for this decline were the massive destruction of energy infrastructure during the war. The nuclear sector, which generated half of the country's electricity in 2021, was the most affected. Production at nuclear power plants fell by 27.5% already in 2022. Russian attacks damaged thermal and hydropower stations, and the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant also impacted the situation in the energy sector.

As a result of the destabilization of the sector and significant losses from military actions, electricity production in Ukraine has decreased by one-third over the past three years. The nuclear sector has become one of the most affected, leading to an overall reduction in electricity production volumes in the country.
