Changes in the meat market in Ukraine
Ukraine increased lamb and goat meat exports as well as pork imports in January-November 2025, indicating significant changes in the meat market. During this period, 185 tons of lamb and goat meat were exported, which is 35% more compared to the same period in 2024. In monetary terms, exports increased by 44.5% and amounted to $711 thousand. It is worth noting that 99.3% of Ukrainian lamb and goat meat was purchased by the United Arab Emirates.
Pork imports in Ukraine
At the same time, in January-October 2025, 24,295 thousand tons of pork were imported to Ukraine for a total of $61.554 million. Compared to the same period in 2024, pork imports increased by 11.5 times. The main suppliers of pork to Ukraine were:
- Denmark – 58.62% of imports amounting to $36.08 million
- Poland – 18.29% amounting to $11.26 million
- Netherlands – 8.54% amounting to $5.26 million
The average consumer price for pork in November 2025 was 242.97 UAH per kilogram. It was 4% lower than in October 2025, but compared to October 2024, the price of pork increased by 32.5%. These changes in the meat market indicate the dynamics of supply and demand in Ukraine.
The increase in lamb and goat meat exports in Ukraine primarily indicates an increase in demand for these products from foreign markets, particularly the United Arab Emirates. At the same time, the sharp rise in pork imports, especially from Denmark, points to changes in domestic consumption and possible issues with pork production in Ukraine. Such trends may suggest the need for Ukrainian producers to adapt to new market requirements and changes in consumer preferences.
