Bratislava police ready to accept Ukrainian refugees

The police in Bratislava intend to recruit refugees from Ukraine to strengthen law enforcement. This will facilitate the integration of Ukrainians into Slovak society, said city police representative Peter Borko to Dennik N.

'The city police of Bratislava would very much like to welcome citizens of Ukraine into their ranks. The law does not pose obstacles in this matter,' he explained.

Problems of Ukrainian refugees in Slovakia

There are about 42 thousand Ukrainian refugees in Bratislava, mostly mothers with children. After several incidents involving Ukrainian teenagers, official statistics indicate that aggression among young Ukrainians is not increasing.

According to the Bratislava city police, since the beginning of 2025, there have been 323 incidents related to public order violations. Only 17 of them, or about 5%, involved Ukrainians.

According to Anna Shvachka, director of the public association 'We Are Together' in Slovakia, the main problem is the loneliness of teenagers and the lack of male role models.

The Bratislava police express their readiness to accept Ukrainian refugees to strengthen their ranks, which may contribute to the integration of Ukrainians into Slovak society. Incidents involving Ukrainian teenagers have not led to an overall increase in aggression among youth, while the issue of loneliness and the lack of stable male role models remains relevant for refugees in Slovakia.
