Ukrainian Drone Forces Achieve March Milestone
Ukrainian forces using interceptor drones destroyed a record-breaking 33,000 enemy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in March, a figure that doubled the total from the previous month. This significant achievement was announced by Ukraine's Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, via social media. He noted that the destroyed drones included Shahed, Zala, and Orlan types, demonstrating the effectiveness of Ukraine's evolving counter-drone technologies. “The primary challenge is the jet-powered Shaheds. The enemy is scaling up their use, their speed is increasing, and interception is becoming more difficult. Our task is to find a technological solution,”the minister stated.
Technological Support for Counter-Drone Systems
Support for these efforts is coming through initiatives like the EU4UA Defence Tech program, which has backed 12 technologies that could significantly enhance Ukraine's anti-drone capabilities. Companies are receiving funding of up to 150,000 euros to develop high-speed interceptors capable of exceeding 450 km/h. Furthermore, the Brave1 cluster unites approximately 100 manufacturers of interceptor drones, with over 30 of these companies working on artificial intelligence systems for detecting and eliminating aerial targets.
These developments are particularly timely, as March marked the first time since the full-scale invasion began that Ukraine surpassed Russia in the number of drone attacks launched. Key priorities for the defense tech market now include:

- creating alternative guidance systems that can operate effectively in complex weather conditions.
