Ukraine's Ihor Khmara secured a gold medal at the second leg of the 2026 World Rowing Cup, held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. This victory marks his first of the 2026 season, achieved with an impressive time of 6:57.16 in the men's lightweight single sculls event.

Khmara crossed the finish line 9.71 seconds ahead of Uzbekistan's Firdavs Akhunov, who took silver with a time of 7:06.87. Venezuela's Jonas Díaz rounded out the podium in third place, finishing in 7:10.47. These results highlight the high level of competition and skill among the athletes.

Upcoming Races and Ukrainian Rowing Success

The second day of finals at the Plovdiv World Cup is scheduled for Sunday, June 14. Ukraine will compete for medals in three categories:

  • men's coxless fours,
  • quadruple sculls,
  • women's single sculls.

It is worth noting that Ukrainian rowers skipped the first World Cup leg in Seville, Spain.

Meanwhile, Liudmyla Luzan earned her first medal at the 2026 European Championships in Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal, finishing on the podium in the women's C-1 200m canoe sprint.
