Ukrenergo records a critical situation in the energy system of Ukraine. Due to Russian strikes on infrastructure facilities, thousands of consumers in Sumy and Chernihiv regions were left without electricity as of the morning of October 6. This was reported by Ukrenergo on Telegram.
Where is the worst energy situation after Russian strikes on October 6, 2025
In particular, the worst situation has developed in the city of Shostka and the surrounding areas of Sumy, where emergency outages are ongoing. In Chernihiv region, including the regional center, local energy workers have implemented two rounds of emergency outage schedules for part of the subscribers. This is a result of night drone attacks that damaged key facilities. Electricity consumption remains high: as of 9:30 on Monday, it exceeded the indicators of last Friday by 1%.
Reasons for high electricity consumption in Ukraine on October 6, 2025
Energy workers explain this by weather conditions: cloudiness reduces the efficiency of household solar power plants, forcing Ukrainians to load the general grid more.
"The reason is the persistence of cloudy weather in most regions. This causes low efficiency of household solar power plants and a corresponding increase in the level of electricity consumption from the general grid," it is noted in the Ukrenergo report.
Yesterday, October 5, was even more complicated: the daily maximum load in the evening reached 6.9% higher than that recorded on September 28. The main factor is a sharp drop in temperature, which activated the use of electric heaters in homes. Experts emphasize that such fluctuations threaten the stability of the entire system, especially in autumn when the demand for heating increases.
Ukrenergo's advice on avoiding a collapse in electricity supply
To avoid collapse, Ukrenergo calls for prudent consumption. Here are key recommendations for Ukrainians:
-
Avoid turning on several high-power devices (boiler, heater, stove) at the same time during peak hours from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
-
Check outage schedules on the regional power company websites and apps.
-
Use energy-efficient equipment: LED lamps, timers for heating.
-
In case of blackout, inform the supplier's call center.
