Ukrzaliznytsia under fire: how 700 thousand passengers get home

В умовах бойових дій понад 700 тисяч пасажирів доводиться долати труднощі, щоб дістатися до своїх домівок.

Ukraine continues to ensure the operation of transport and humanitarian services in frontline areas, despite attempts by Russia to damage infrastructure and isolate these communities.

Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba emphasized this information during a working trip to Sumy region.

'The enemy is deliberately hunting trains, particularly passenger ones – launching drones and striking locomotives when they see moving stock. But we continue to provide connections even in areas under fire. People's safety is a priority,' Kuleba emphasized.

To support transport connections in frontline areas, a combined transportation scheme is used, allowing for flexible adaptation to security situations.

'To protect passengers and railway workers, modular shelters are being installed at train stations. Additionally, Ukrzaliznytsia is working on additional safety measures for rolling stock and conducts round-the-clock monitoring of threats in all regions,' the Ministry of Development noted.

In just the past month, more than 700 thousand passengers have used Ukrzaliznytsia's services in frontline areas, including over 43 thousand in Sumy region.

In addition to passenger transportation, Ukrzaliznytsia provides humanitarian support through the Food Train, which has prepared over 2.6 million portions of hot meals for residents of de-occupied, frontline, and affected regions. Just in Sumy region, over 60 thousand hot meals have been issued.

'Also, Ukrposhta is actively working in frontline communities – the only operator that does not stop operations even in close proximity to active combat zones. Currently, there are 1338 stationary and 512 mobile post offices functioning. Postal workers deliver pensions, social benefits, and necessary services to the most remote settlements. The safety of employees remains an unconditional priority,' the Ministry of Development reported.

Ukraine continues to ensure vital services in frontline areas, despite the enemy's attempts to hinder their functioning.
