Ukraine significantly increased lard imports, pig fat, and poultry fat in the first three quarters of 2025. The volume of imports of these products increased by 18.5% compared to the same period last year, reaching 12.8 thousand tons. Detailed statistics are provided by the publication AgroTimes, referring to data from the State Customs Service.
In monetary terms, the import of lard and fats amounted to $14.7 million, which exceeds the figures for January-September 2024 by 7.3%. The geography of supplies is as follows:
-
Poland - 68% of the total import volume.
-
Germany - 14.2%.
-
Spain - 8.8%.
This statistics indicate a growing dependence of the Ukrainian market on imported lard and fats, despite traditionally strong positions of domestic producers in this segment. In the first nine months of 2025, three EU countries accounted for over 91% of all imports of these products to Ukraine.
Earlier, we reported that lard and bread prices increased in Ukraine: how prices changed in July. Bread prices can vary; for example, the price of “Tsar Khlib” wheat bread ranges from 42.90 to 46.53 hryvnias for 600 grams. At the same time, the price of lard has risen - homemade lard now costs an average of 252.05 hryvnias per kilogram, which is 8.55 hryvnias more expensive than in June.
