The colleague learned about the death in intensive care
In the intensive care unit of Dnipro, severely wounded special correspondent of the Freedom TV channel Oleksandr Kolychev regained consciousness. He is the only one who survived from the filming group that was attacked by a Russian drone in Kramatorsk on October 23. This was reported by 'Glavcom' citing TSN.
As a result of the enemy attack, correspondent Aliona Hramova and operator Yevhen Karmazin were killed. They were filming the aftermath of the shelling of the city when they were struck by a Russian 'Lancet'. Kolychev shared details of the attack on the media workers.
«It happened very quickly, almost silently. In the last split second, I heard something, but I caught myself feeling like I was flying somewhere. The sound disappeared and I couldn't hear or feel the left side of my body, my face, my ear, my arm,» he says.
The media colleagues – Aliona Hramova and Yevhen Karmazin – were standing just a few steps away from him at the time of the strike. He learned about the death of his colleagues, with whom he had worked for many years in Donetsk, already in the intensive care unit.
Doctors are fighting for every step towards recovery
«I saw almost nothing. Just spots. So I couldn't know what was happening to my team, where they were, how. I have never been part of a team that resonated in a good sense like this one. I have never worked so well with anyone in my life. We bonded as a team, as friends,» he said.
According to doctors, Oleksandr Kolychev sustained very serious injuries. The medics reassembled his fractured leg bones so that Oleksandr could walk. Currently, the doctors are trying to save the journalist's eyesight. A long road to recovery still lies ahead. His wife and children are waiting for him at the hospital.
After the drone attack in Kramatorsk, the correspondent and operator died, while special correspondent of the Freedom TV channel, Oleksandr Kolychev, is fighting for recovery in intensive care.
