Part of the Team: The Story of Veteran Dmytro Bondar
At just 19 years old, Dmytro Bondar stepped up to defend Ukraine. Severely wounded and later losing a limb, he now continues his service with the police in Chernihiv Oblast. He fought in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) and, when the full-scale invasion began, helped defend the city of Chernihiv. During a Grad rocket attack, Dmytro was hit; fellow officers risked their lives to pull him from the fire zone.
The injuries required 13 surgeries, ultimately leading to the amputation of a limb. Despite these immense challenges, Dmytro learned to walk with a prosthetic and now works at the Main Directorate of the National Police in Chernihiv Region. His next goal is to earn a university degree.
Sports and Supporting Fellow Veterans
Beyond his police duties, Dmytro stays highly active: he works out at the gym, plays football, and swims. He also competes in the Ministry of Internal Affairs' veteran games called 'Unbreakable.'
Dmytro shares his thoughts: 'Here, I feel respected and valued as an employee. My plan is to keep moving forward and continue working in the police force.'
