Ukraine is facing an energy collapse that threatens every electricity consumer. While paying their bills, people are not only covering the consumed energy but also all the corruption schemes and debts of the system that drive electricity tariffs. Experts warn that this situation cannot last forever - a sharp increase in tariffs is possible in the coming years.
Expert Mykhailo Shuster noted: 'When you pay for electricity, you are actually supporting this entire corrupt system and the debts that have crippled the energy sector'
The state company 'Energoatom' finances both the energy sector and corruption schemes, and now this financial burden will fall on consumers. The infrastructure suffers the most, as the lack of funds hinders necessary repairs and modernization of equipment.
A 'shock jump' in electricity tariffs is expected
The current electricity tariff for the population is too low, as generation companies operate even without full payment. Shuster warns that this situation cannot last long, so citizens may need to prepare for a sharp rise in tariffs.
