Salary Increase for Teachers in Ukraine

Salaries for teachers in Ukraine will increase by 50% in two stages, starting in 2026. The first increase is scheduled for January 2026, when educators' salaries will rise by 30%. The next increase will occur in September 2026, when salaries will increase by another 20%. These measures are part of a new plan to raise salaries for educators aimed at improving financial working conditions for teachers.

Funding for Salary Increases

To implement salary increases, UAH 91.8 billion in educational subsidies will be allocated, which will be distributed among local budgets. An additional UAH 21.4 billion will also be redistributed to ensure payments. Monthly allowances for 409,000 specialists will begin from January to August 2026. The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has allocated UAH 10.37 billion in the budget for these allowances.

In addition to salary increases, there will also be a change in the approach to funding school safety. The state will only finance facilities that have at least 60% readiness for shelters. Specifically, resources will be allocated as follows:

  • 40% of the resources will be allocated for areas with very high risk;
  • 35% for areas with high risk;
  • the share of funding for communities with moderate and satisfactory levels has increased from 10% to 25%.

These changes in teachers' pay and school safety are important steps to improve the learning and working conditions in Ukraine's education sector. The salary increase aims to attract and retain qualified personnel in education, which is especially relevant in times of war and economic instability. The new approach to funding safety in educational institutions also reflects the growing attention to protecting children and educators in difficult conditions, which may positively affect the overall state of school education in Ukraine.
