Path to the FIFAe World Cup 2026
Ukraine's national esports football team is set to begin its campaign to qualify for the prestigious FIFAe World Cup 2026. The qualification process will unfold across three distinct stages, designed to test teams' skills and strategies across multiple competitive formats.
The competition structure is identical for three disciplines: eFootball Console, eFootball Mobile, and Rocket League. The first stage, known as the FIFAe Nations League, will feature a group phase on day one, followed by playoffs spanning the second and third days. The match weeks for eFootball Console are scheduled across three periods:
- First: April 14-16, 2026;
- Second: May 12-14, 2026;
- Third: June 30 - July 2, 2026.
For Rocket League, the first match week is set for April 28-30, 2026, the second for June 2-4, 2026, and the third for July 14-16, 2026. Meanwhile, eFootball Mobile's first week runs from May 5-7, 2026, the second from June 8-10, 2026, and the third from July 14-16, 2026.
Continental Championships and the Grand Finals
The top eight European teams from the first stage will advance to the second phase, the Continental Championship. The qualification process will culminate in the FIFAe Finals 2026, the premier global event.
In a parallel development on the traditional football pitch, Ukraine's national football team suffered a 3-1 defeat to Sweden in a 2026 World Cup playoff semi-final. Ponomarenko scored Ukraine's sole goal in the 90+1st minute, while Sweden's Jokeres netted a hat-trick with goals in the 6th, 51st, and 72nd minutes.
For the 2026 World Cup itself, the groups have already been drawn:
- Group A: Mexico, South Africa, South Korea, Czech Republic;
- Group B: Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar, Switzerland;
- Group C: Brazil, Morocco, Haiti, Scotland;
- Group D: United States, Paraguay, Australia, Turkey.
Other groups, E through L, feature teams including Germany, Sweden, France, Argentina, England, and many more.
Advancing to the Round of 16 will be the top two teams from each group, along with the eight best third-placed finishers from the group stage. Ukraine's esports squad now has the opportunity to showcase its potential on the virtual pitch and demonstrate a high level of play on the international stage.
Competitive esports football is gaining significant global traction. Ukraine's participation in FIFAe World Cup qualifying underscores the growing domestic interest in this digital sport. This new frontier offers a promising avenue for sporting development and international recognition, providing a platform for emerging talent even as the nation's traditional football faces ongoing challenges.
