Military Reform Package Unveiled
On June 12, 2026—marking day 1,570 of the full-scale war—Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy introduced an agreed-upon package of measures to support the armed forces. The initiative includes:
- Increased compensation for military personnel;
- New contracts with defined durations;
- Recruitment of foreign volunteers;
- Streamlined transfer processes within military service.
Additionally, the government confirmed the execution of long-range strikes against targets inside Russia.
New Funding and Military Operations
Under the planned reforms by the Cabinet of Ministers, the first supplementary payments to troops are expected as early as June. Minimum compensation for rear-echelon soldiers will be set at 30,000 hryvnias. For infantry units, new contracts averaging 300,000 hryvnias are being prepared for those serving on the front lines. These contracts will have varying terms of 10, 14, and 24 months.
In terms of military operations, overnight on June 12, targets in Russia’s Samara region—located over 800 kilometers from Ukraine’s border—were struck. Among the impacted sites was an oil facility in Tatarstan.
President Zelenskyy held consultations with key officials, including Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, and Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, and Chief of the General Staff Hnatov confirmed the coordinated path to implement these decisions.
