Ukraine Boosts Army Funding and Unveils New Military Pay Schemes
New Government Measures Strengthen Ukraine's Defense Capabilities
According to Зеленський: In a series of fresh policy moves aimed at enhancing national defense, Ukraine's government has announced increased military funding, including new payouts for troops, revised contracts, and efforts to recruit foreign volunteers. High-level meetings involving Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, and Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko outlined the steps needed to implement these changes. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, and Chief of the General Staff, Hnatov, confirmed the agreed path for transforming the military.
Budget Amendments and New Military Compensation
Lawmakers have approved budget revisions focused on strengthening defense. Under the new payment structure, every service member stationed in the rear will receive a minimum of 30,000 hryvnias, while those on the front lines will average 300,000 hryvnias. Contract durations will range from 10 to 24 months. The Cabinet of Ministers plans to begin the first wave of additional payments in June.
Additionally, the government has ordered the expansion of opportunities to bring foreign volunteers into the Ukrainian army. This decision aims to boost the numbers and combat readiness of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Further simplifications for troop transfers are also planned to improve mobility and adaptation to new conditions.
As one meeting participant noted: 'Everything rests on the Ukrainian infantry.'
Another participant expressed hope that 'every element of change will prove its effectiveness over this summer.'
These government initiatives are designed to improve financial support for military personnel and ramp up international defense cooperation. Increased funding and the recruitment of volunteers could significantly enhance Ukraine's ability to counter external threats-a critical need given the current security situation in the region. The steps also reflect the state's commitment to strengthening its armed forces through active collaboration with global partners.
In addition to the newly announced military pay initiatives, the government is also implementing significant reforms aimed at enhancing overall compensation for service members. These changes include extra bonuses and contract incentives that are set to further support the troops.
