Ukrainian President’s Visit to Yerevan
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has landed in Yerevan on a working trip to take part in the European Political Community summit. The trip was confirmed by presidential spokesperson Serhiy Nykyforov. The first day focuses on strengthening ties with major European partners, while the core summit sessions are set for Monday, May 4.
Diplomatic Meetings and Sanctions
On May 3, Zelenskyy is scheduled to hold talks with the prime ministers of Norway, Finland, the United Kingdom, and the Czech Republic. A joint statement from the Ukrainian president and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected at 6:15 p.m. local time. This summit serves as a key platform for coordinating efforts on security, energy, and economic stability across the continent.
During the visit, Zelenskyy signed a decree enacting a National Security and Defense Council decision to impose personal sanctions on five individuals. These individuals’ actions are deemed to threaten Ukraine’s national interests, security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Additionally, Zelenskyy met with Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, during which he announced upcoming personnel changes within the Cabinet of Ministers.
'Tomorrow is the main summit of European leaders, along with continued bilateral and multilateral meetings,' Serhiy Nykyforov stated.
This visit underscores Ukraine’s active foreign policy and its commitment to collaboration with European allies.
Zelenskyy’s trip to Yerevan occurs amid Ukraine’s growing emphasis on European integration, especially given ongoing security challenges. The European Political Community summit offers Ukraine a chance to deepen ties with key European states, potentially boosting support during the armed conflict. The imposition of sanctions also reflects Ukraine’s determination to safeguard its national interests and counter threats to its security.
