Ukraine's Role in International Security Frameworks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced the country's participation in new international security frameworks with partners, including nations impacted by the Iranian regime. Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, will deliver a report on this work on April 3. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has already taken part in a format dedicated to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine is actively cooperating with several Middle Eastern and Gulf states that are under pressure from Iran. These countries include:
- Saudi Arabia
- United Arab Emirates
- Qatar
- Jordan
Negotiations are also ongoing with Bahrain, Kuwait, and Iraq.
The President stated that these new agreements will allow Ukraine to have a greater presence in emerging security formats, which he believes will strengthen both Ukrainian export capabilities and defense potential.
'We have new agreements, and Ukraine will be even more represented in new security formats. This will undoubtedly strengthen our export opportunities and Ukrainian defense potential,' said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy also noted that if partners are ready for action, Ukraine will consider ways to enhance its collaborative efforts, including sharing expertise, knowledge, and technological capacity. 'It is now impossible to imagine real security without Ukraine,' he added.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, participating in a joint format with European and other partners, discussed challenges related to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. 'For every country: from the Gulf to Turkey,' Zelenskyy noted, underscoring the importance of Ukraine's involvement in security discussions for this strategically vital region. This diplomatic push comes as Ukraine seeks to build a global coalition against shared threats.
Ukraine's Diplomatic Activity in the Middle East
Thus, Ukraine continues its active diplomatic engagement in the Middle East, aiming to bolster its position within the context of global security.
Ukraine's inclusion in security formats with Middle Eastern nations signals Kyiv's ambition not only to reinforce its defensive capabilities but also to activate economic ties in the region. Amid rising international tensions, cooperation with states that also face threats from Iran could create new opportunities for Ukraine within global security and economic frameworks. This opens prospects for Ukraine's further integration into international security structures and the formation of new alliances.
As Ukraine strengthens its security ties with Gulf nations, the geopolitical landscape continues to evolve. In a related development, Zelenskyy has shared critical intelligence with Middle Eastern leaders regarding Russia's support to Iran, highlighting the interconnectedness of these security challenges and the need for collaborative strategies in the region.
