Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Interview

In an interview with Italy's RAI broadcaster, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed critical issues regarding the war and international relations. He stated that trilateral meetings involving the U.S. and Russia had been postponed and expressed his willingness to meet with Vladimir Putin. Zelenskyy stressed that the location could not be Moscow or Kyiv, but noted,

“if he is ready to meet with me, there are many places where this can be done. We can find such a place in the Middle East, in Europe, the United States, anywhere.”

Russian Plans and International Support

During the interview, Zelenskyy also issued a warning that Russia plans to seize Kharkiv and Dnipro. He emphasized that even if the Donbas were captured, the Kremlin would not stop its offensive. The Ukrainian president pointed out flaws in the strategy of former U.S. President Donald Trump's team toward the Kremlin, expressing a belief that the Trump administration trusted the Russian dictator.

“Support for Ukraine, particularly through weapons supplies, must continue,”
he added.

Zelenskyy observed that the primary focus of the U.S. is currently on the Middle East, and he welcomed the achievement of a ceasefire agreement in Iran. He attempted to convince the U.S. that Russia is aiding Iran's military actions in the Middle East, but his efforts were unsuccessful due to Washington's stance.

“But we will start them again,”

the Ukrainian president stated, underscoring the vital importance of sustained international support for Ukraine.

This interview highlights the pivotal challenges Ukraine faces amid escalating Russian aggression and the necessity of maintaining the international community's focus on the conflict. Zelenskyy's statements demonstrate Ukraine's pursuit of a diplomatic resolution, despite the looming threats. His comments on the Middle East and Russia's role there underscore the global context of these events, which can influence international policy strategies. The war in Ukraine remains a critical front in a broader struggle for European security and the rules-based international order.

In light of Zelenskyy's concerns about Russian ambitions, it's crucial to consider how these geopolitical tensions extend beyond Ukraine. The Ukrainian president has also pointed out that Russia's interference is not limited to military actions in the Donbas but includes attempts to influence the U.S. electoral process. Understanding this broader context is essential for grasping the stakes involved in the ongoing conflict.
