Shifts in Ukraine’s Diplomatic Ranks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has enacted a series of presidential decrees to replace ambassadors in several countries, dismissing envoys from Oman, Cyprus, and Vietnam. Decrees numbered 534 through 538 remove Olha Ivanivna Selykh from her post as Ukraine’s ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Sultanate of Oman. Serhii Serhiiovych Nizhynskyi has been let go as ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus, and Oleksandr Vitaliiovych Haman has been relieved of his concurrent duties as ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Kingdom of Cambodia.

New Ambassadors Step In

Simultaneously, a new ambassador has been appointed to Italy. Ihor Mykolaiovych Brusylo now serves as Ukraine’s ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Italian Republic, while also taking on concurrent roles as envoy to the Republic of San Marino and the Republic of Malta. Additionally, President Zelenskyy has accepted the credentials of newly appointed ambassadors from Panama, Mongolia, and Peru:

  • Jorge Ricardo Silen Santacoloma — Ambassador of Panama
  • Navaan-Yunden Oyundari — Ambassador of Mongolia
  • Gloria Lisette Nalvarte Simoni de Isasi — Ambassador of Peru

These personnel changes within Ukraine’s diplomatic corps may signal a strategic recalibration of foreign policy and a push to strengthen international ties. The appointment of a new ambassador to Italy—a key European partner—underscores Kyiv’s focus on deepening bilateral relations and reinforcing its global standing. At the same time, the dismissals could reflect efforts to adapt to evolving geopolitical challenges. For an English-speaking audience, it is worth noting that such moves are part of Ukraine’s broader diplomatic push amid ongoing war with Russia, as the country seeks to secure sustained support from allies and open new channels of cooperation. Taken together, these steps could have significant implications for Ukraine’s diplomatic strategy in the face of modern global pressures.

The recent appointments in Ukraine's diplomatic corps come amid significant changes within the country's defense leadership. As President Zelenskyy continues to reshape key positions, he has also appointed a new deputy commander for the National Guard, reflecting a broader strategy to enhance national security and international relations.
