Ukrainian Grain Shipment Reaches Israeli Port
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that a vessel loaded with grain taken by Russia from occupied Ukrainian territory has arrived at an Israeli port. The ship is now preparing to unload its cargo, even though Ukraine had taken diplomatic steps to prevent such deliveries. The vessel, named ABINSK, was granted permission to dock at the Port of Haifa on April 14 after waiting for a decision since March 23. Zelenskyy stressed the need for legal accountability for those who purchase stolen goods, stating:
'In all normal countries, buying stolen property is an act that carries legal consequences. This applies, among other things, to grain stolen by Russia.'
Sanctions Package and International Support
Ukraine is preparing a sanctions package targeting grain carriers as well as individuals and entities involved in this criminal scheme. Zelenskyy noted that 'based on intelligence reports, we are preparing a corresponding sanctions package that will cover both those directly transporting this grain and those individuals and legal entities trying to profit from this criminal scheme.' The sanctions are expected to be coordinated with European partners, and Ukraine is awaiting a response from Israel.
The president also expressed hope that 'Israeli authorities will respect Ukraine and avoid steps that weaken bilateral relations.' This incident has raised concerns in Ukraine, as it threatens not only economic ties but also the political dimensions of cooperation between the two countries.
