Ukraine may soon receive a decision on the opening of another negotiation cluster on its path to European Union membership. At the same time, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak believes that the pace of Euro-integration has slowed down due to the failure to fulfill part of the obligations to European partners.
Negotiation clusters with the EU: what the new decision means for Ukraine
According to Zheleznyak, negotiation clusters cover specific areas of legislation that the candidate country must align with European Union norms. Meeting these requirements is a necessary condition for further progress towards membership.
The MP explained that the opening of a new cluster in itself is a positive signal; however, in his opinion, Ukraine could move faster if it fully fulfilled its commitments in the area of reforms and combating corruption.
He also noted that the successful closure of negotiation clusters in the future opens up additional integration opportunities for Ukraine into the European market even before full membership.
Zheleznyak named the reforms that, in his opinion, the EU expects
In the video, the MP expressed the opinion that the European Union expects Ukraine to expedite the implementation of reforms in the areas of the rule of law, combating corruption, and the judicial system. Among the steps he identified as priorities are the adoption of legislative changes, fulfilling Euro-integration obligations, and demonstrating real progress in implementing reforms.
Zheleznyak also stated that together with a group of MPs, he continues to register draft laws that, according to him, should help meet part of the requirements of the European Commission.
In his conviction, the rapid advancement of reforms and adherence to agreements with partners will allow Ukraine to accelerate the negotiation process and open new clusters without additional delays.
Earlier, Zheleznyak announced a crackdown on corrupt officials due to EU requirements and 90 billion euros.
